When you hire a contractor to restore the Terrazzo you have in your home, a budget is always a concern, but there is another concern.What is that you say?  Well todays Terrazzo is not your Grandmothers Terrazzo anymore.  We have bogged before about one of the reasons that Terrazzo was “covered up” in the 1970’s was because of the new ’shag” carpet and new roll vinyl or tiles.  It was because this beautiful surface was so labor intensive!  It had to be wax on your (grandmothers) hands and knee’s.  Removing and reapplying wax was the way it was done back then.  If the previous wax was not removed, the waxy build up along with the embedded dirt would build up and what you would get is a yellowed, dull shined on the Terrazzo. This is what the contractor did to the Terrazzo in this home.

Keeping the Terrazzo clean, is much easier today with the new techniques and sealers that are used.  When these home owners a few years later, sold their home, they explain to the new owners to restore this white based Terrazzo floor back to the way it should be to call us.  So the new owner did a Google search to find our company, Colonial Floor and Stone Care gave us a call.  Our Technicians came over and removed the wax build up, cleaned and polished the floor back to its beauty and shine.

Today Terrazzo is cleaned and polished professionally with high power buffing machines and sealed for that high shine with out any yellowing.  As you may or may not know, Terrazzo has been used for thousands of years, and is made by using Portland cement and placing pieces of marble, shells, or other small pieces of stone into the cement, pressing these into the cement and ground to polish to a shine.  Today with all of the new techniques and machine’s that are now used, takes the labor intensive waxing, to a easier, wiser way to clean and polish your Terrazzo.

So that is what these new home owners did.  They had Colonial Floor and Stone Care come and take all the old yellow wax build up off and put a newly polish. With the floor ready, the new home owners were then ready to make it their own!
